January 2006
Let me start by whishing you a Happy New Year.
Back in July of 2005 the PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group, the PICMG, approved the first open industry specification for PCI Express computer-on-modules. I had been extended the privilege of chairing the COM Express subcommittee at the time. The approval of the COM Express specification was a major milestone for the embedded industry. Computer-on-modules have been around for over a decade and have steadily been gaining popularity with designers of embedded systems around the world. The COM Express specification embodies all the benefits of the computer-on-module methodology, such as quick time-to-market, flexible form factors and true scalability.
With the release of the specification, the need was born for a medium for COM Express industry news and education. Hence, COM Express Source - the premier source where OEMs and Suppliers connect on COM Express.
I personally would like to welcome you to the first issue of the COM Express Source publication. I hope it meets your expectations and needs related to COM Express and encourage you to sign up for the newsletter and forward the URL to as many of your colleagues and peers.
Enjoy the articles in this first issue and send us your feedback.
Sincerely,
Kishan Jainandunsing
